1999 XK8
The 1999 Jaguar XK8 is available as a 2 door rear-wheel drive coupe or convertible. The XK8 is Jaguar's second best selling automobile behind only the XJ8. Jaguar markets the XK8 to those who want a true sports car driving experience with plenty of luxury appointments such as Connolly leather and premium wood trims. The XK8 competes in the high-end of the luxury market against Mercedes and BMW. Most XK8 buyers are college graduates who are married and have an average household income of $200,000 per year. The average age is around 53 with men making up 70 percent of the buyers. The XK8 is powered by an advanced version of the naturally aspirated 4.0L 32-valve V8 engine. This engine now features the North American Onboard Refueling Vapor Recovery System (ORVR) that is only available in the XK8 model. The five speed automatic transmission includes Jaguar's J-gate shifter which allows for manual or fully automatic operation. With Jaguar's advanced front and rear suspension and Automatic Stability Control the XK8 provides the type of handling expected in a sports car. Essentially the XK8 is unchanged for the 1999 model year. However, it does feature advancements to the V8 engine such as continuously variable cam phasing, revised engine management system, revised cruise control, and dual-tipped platinum spark plugs with 100,000 mile maintenance intervals. Jaguar now offers two new exterior paint colors, Phoenix (signal red) for the coupe and convertible and Alpine (light green) for the convertible. Beige is also offered as a new color for the convertible top.
